LONDON (AP) — Turkey’s Servet Tazegul has won the Olympic taekwondo gold medal in the men’s 68-kilogram division.

The 23-year-old Tazegul is the world No. 1 and defeated Iran’s Mohammad Bagheri Motamed 6-5. Tazegul was often in attack mode, throwing combinations of spinning or jumping kicks.

But despite the acrobatics, Tazegul rarely scored — unlike in the rest of his fights on Thursday. It was a subdued final after a day of forcing his opponents to adapt to his high-paced fight style. No one able could match the fluidity of his kicks.

Bronze medals were won by Terrence Jennings of the United States and Afghanistan’s Rohullah Nikpai, who in 2008 won his country’s first medal at an Olympics, also a bronze.
